Visit to Lichfield Cathedral 2019

The Linsdale Singers visit Lichfield Cathedral

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July 2019

During the weekend of 27th/28th July 2019 the Singers made a return visit to Lichfield Cathedral, their first visit was in 2005. The Choir sang Evensong at 5.30pm on the Saturday and Eucharist at 11.00am and Evensong at 3.00pm on the Sunday.

As always the weekend was quite intense with lots of music to sing, but these cathedral visits are a highlight of the Singers’ year and an important social occasion in the life of the Choir. Despite the weather (it rained more or less non-stop all weekend) the singers very much enjoyed the visit and were warmly welcomed by the Cathedral staff.

Some singers stayed in the George hotel and others in the Cathedral Hotel, both about 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral. The Saturday evening meal was held in the Cathedral’s ‘Chapters’ café located in the Cathedral Close. The visit came just a couple of days after the hottest day on record in the UK and it was a relief to have some cooler weather.

A few singers travelled up on the Friday afternoon, and met at Christ Church Lichfield to sing a few anthems to celebrate the wedding anniversary of one of the Singers’ parents who were married in the church 50 years ago. This was an emotional but joyous ad hoc sing and was much appreciated by the singer and her parents.
