Sunday afternoon concert
Songs of Springtime
Sunday 23rd April 2023 at 3.30pm
Hockliffe Street Baptist Church, Hockliffe Street, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire LU7 1EZ
After the pandemic, the Singers are now getting back into a regular set of concerts and events and are starting 2023 with a joyous concert of choral music to celebrate Easter, Spring, St George's Day and the Coronation of King Charles.
The music will consist of a wide range of unaccompanied choral music, old and new, both sacred and secular. A highlight of the concert will be a selection of movements from Moeran's Songs of Springtime – a set of Elizabethan poems set for unaccompanied SATB chorus. Also in the concert are pieces by Byrd and Weelkes to mark the 400th anniversary of both composer's deaths. The forthcoming Coronation of King George III on 6th May is celebrated with music from past coronations, including Purcell's setting of I was glad, composed for the coronation of King James II – on 23rd April 1685. The concert will end with choral arrangements of two songs made famous by Vera Lynn.
Tickets are £8 (under 16s free) and are available on the door or in advance online from WeGotTickets* (link below).
